Fractured Fairytale

My reflection

I have been learning to write a fractured fairy tale using what I have learnt about a narrative structure and features . My fairy tale was based on jack and the beanstalk. The best part of it was the pixel art . My next step is to use past tense consistently

Understanding the Purpose of Characters in the Text

My reflection

I have been learning to relate to the character in the text to understand their purpose. I used 

a Venn diagram to compare Ivan and Stella in the story The one and only Ivan. this made me realise the differences between the characters  but also what made them similar.My next step is to be able to use this information to make inferences  about   the purpose of the characters. 

Solving Multiplication Using Place Value

I A L T solve multiplication problems with a 2 digit number using place value .

I found this easy because I know my times tables. My next step is to use 4 digit numbers.

W.A.L.T write a character description using adjectives
I found this easy because i took my time.I used my five senses to write 5 different sentinces
about my  character my next step is to use a simile or a metaphor.  

Identify Common Themes In Fractured Fairy Tails

I have been learning to identify common themes in fairy and fractured  tails 

We read two narratives called  red riding hood and into the Forrest . A common theme 
was woods.I found this easy because I wrote it down in my draft writing book
My next step is to try different books .

Maori God Art

This is my Maori god art.  We read a myth called in the beginning.  I drew Tu and used some adjectives to describe him.  I enjoyed this activity.

I was learning to compare Fractions Decimals And Percentages

I had to match up the decimals and the fractions 

I thought it was tricky because there were so meany different things to chose .

I have been learning to make a  justified prediction about a text .  I found this easy to make a prediction because the blurb gave me everything.  My next step is to read the story to see

if I'm right.

I have been learning  to use equal addition to solve 3 digit number subtraction .I found this hard because I got confused. My next step is to subtract 4 digit numbers.

this text was about a debate fro two sides for and against.It made me think about different sides.My next step is to  identify the big idea or message/s in the story through character actions or events.

I used instagrok and other websites to research my speech topic which is Smoking should be banned.  I found this interesting because I got to use new websites.  My next step is to plan my speech.

We have been learning about the structure and order of  of writing an explanation .  We had to put the piece of writing in the correct order .  I found this hard because I got messed up.

My next step is to write my own explanation.

I have been learning to solve multiplication problems  with a 2 digit numbers. I used place value to solve this problem. I found this hard because I got messed up with the 0's. My next step is to solve division problems with remainders.

We have been learning about celebrations .  We had to talk about  these celebrations and d  decide what type of celebration they were.  I found this hard because I  got messed up

Comparing Celebrations

We have been learning to compare and contrast different celebrations .  My group researched information about Eid .  something I found interesting  was the results of what i searched up .  Next  we worked with another group  and used a venn diagram  to compare our celebrations . Things that were the same were the food.  My next step is to put more  detail and information in the venn diagram.

I have been learning to add detail to my writing . we had to imagine if we were a soldier  or a family member and write about a picture I used  adjective word's to make my writing more interesting. my next step is to use my 5 senses to add detail.  

Happy Birthday School

I have been learning to use my prior knowledge and experience.  we read a story called happy birthday school.  I  was able to make a connection in this  text when  I had a birthday party in my  south Africa school.  I found this  tricky because there was not much to find.  My next step is to make connection to other books I read .

I have been learning  to use my knowledge of prefix's suffixes to read and understand the meaning of words

A prefix is a group of letters that come at the beginning of the word to form a new word.

A suffix is a letter or group of letters  at the end of the word to form another word or a new meaning

My next step is to identify the root word.

I have been learning to use strategies to add detail to my writing. 

I wrote a moment in time during my holiday I used mt 5 senses

to add detail to my writing.The best part of this was publishing  it

on a doc.My next step is to use batter information.

I have been learning to collect data using a tally chart and show the results on a bar graph.  I found this hard because I had to count a lot and I got stuck a few times.  My next step is to use different graphs to display iinformation.

My Pepha Art

This is my Pepeha Art. A Pepeha is a way of introducing yourself in Maori. I have included my maunga [mountain], my awa [river], my culture and a place which is special to me. my favorite part of this  was the pastoling 

  

My Antonym Diamante Poem.

I have been learning to write a antonym diamante poem . An antonym is a opposite of something 

like love and hate.  A diamante poem is a poem based on two nouns and their shape is a diamond.  I found this tricky because it was hard to think of nouns, verbs and adjectives. My next step is to choose interesting words, not boring words.

Summarising Information - Camouflage Presentation

                     I  have been learning to find and summarise information in non-fiction texts.  I was surprised that the things I searched up came with different results.  I got a lot better at using key words to search things up when I look for info on the internet.  My next step is to use better search words  when I look for  information on the internet.

Softball skills

                                                  Yesterday RM 12 had softball skills.
                                                      I felt awesome we had 40  points.

I have been learning to use  metaphors to make it more interesting by making pictures in the readers head.

The best part of this was the  pictures because it was hard to get the ones I wanted.  My next step is to say why I am the thing.

We have been learning to write a Bio poem. A Bio poem is a poem writien about ourselves.  It  has a special structure that we had to use to write our poems. I found this hard because I had to keep correcting spelling. My next step is to make sure that my poem is in the right order .

My Welcome Post 2017

Welcome to my Year 4 learning blog. This year I am in room 12 and my teacher is Mrs Melville. I enjoy  reading.  This Year I am looking forward to swimming. I hope you will enjoy my blog and leave lots of feedback.
